KS2 Pupils Shine at First Cross-Trust Oracy Event
Back
KS2 children from across all Newcastle-based LST Primary Academies came together for the first cross-Trust oracy event of the year and what an incredible day it was!
The event, held at The Stand Comedy Club in Newcastle, gave pupils a unique opportunity to showcase their confidence and communication skills in front of a live audience. Finalists were selected through semi-finals held within their schools, ensuring every child had the chance to take part.
To kick things off, pupils enjoyed a warm-up performance and expert comedy tips from local comedian Elaine Robertson, who shared advice on stage presence and delivery. Inspired and energised, the children then took to the stage to perform their own jokes, each one met with laughter and applause.
Every participant received a medal to celebrate their exceptional confidence and bravery, recognising the courage it takes to perform in front of an audience. The event placed a strong emphasis on developing oracy skills, including appropriate volume, tone of voice and body language, all essential for effective communication.
Organised by Tom MacDermid (Year 6 Teacher) and Lisa Macaulay (Headteacher), the day was made possible thanks to the support of each school’s oracy leads. Their dedication ensured the event was a success and a memorable experience for all involved.
Children left feeling proud of their achievements and rightly so. This was the first cross-trust oracy event of the year and with more planned, it marks an exciting step in helping pupils build confidence and communication skills in creative ways.
