Pupils from Atkinson Road Primary Academy joined children from six other local primary schools for an interactive Careers Fair at Excelsior Academy, exploring a wide range of careers and future opportunities.

Running from 9.30am to 2.30pm, the event gave pupils the chance to meet professionals, ask questions and take part in hands-on activities. Working in groups, pupils followed a carousel format, spending around 15 minutes with each organisation before moving on to the next.

The event brought together pupils from Wingrove, Hawthorn, Bridgewater, Canning Street, Broadwood and West Newcastle Academy, alongside pupils from Excelsior Academy, creating an opportunity for young people from across the local community to explore different career pathways.

A diverse range of organisations and teams supported the fair, including British Divers Marine Life Rescue, the Department for Work and Pensions, First Call, Northumberland College, Northumbria University, Money Ready, Groundwork and Access UNEE. Excelsior Academy’s Hair and Beauty Department also took part.

Through interactive sessions and conversations with representatives, pupils were introduced to a variety of sectors, including environmental conservation, education, higher education, finance, recruitment and employment. The activities encouraged them to ask questions, discover new interests and learn more about the different routes available beyond primary school.

The carousel format ensured pupils had the opportunity to engage with every organisation throughout the day, helping them make connections between their learning and the world of work while broadening their understanding of the opportunities available to them in the future.

Experiences such as the Careers Fair play an important role in careers education, giving young people an early insight into different professions and pathways while encouraging them to think about their interests, ambitions and future possibilities.
